PHASE 1: Pre-Tết Preparations (Jan 29 – Feb 5, 2027)

Jan 29 (Lunar Dec 23)

Kitchen Gods Send-off (Cúng Ông Táo): Participate in the traditional send-off ritual for the household deities reporting to the Jade Emperor.

Jan 30 – Feb 4

Home Adornment & Local Markets: Visit bustling local flower markets, pick out peach blossoms (Hoa Đào) or kumquat trees, decorate the ancestral altar (Trang Trí Nhà Cửa), and learn secret family recipes.

Feb 5 (Lunar Dec 29)

The Overnight Bánh Chưng Fire: Hand-wrap green square sticky rice cakes in banana leaves and gather around the crackling fire under the night sky to tend the boiling pot overnight.

PHASE 2: Main New Year Celebrations (Feb 6 – Feb 8, 2027)

Feb 6 (Lunar Dec 30)

Reunion Feast & Midnight Fireworks (Giao Thừa): Prepare and enjoy the grand Year-End Reunion Feast (Mâm Cỗ Tất Niên). At midnight, toast to the new year and watch city fireworks light up the Đồng Hới sky.

Feb 7 (Lunar Jan 1)

Ancestral Tributes & Lucky Red Envelopes: Put on your finest clothes for morning altar offerings, receive lucky red envelopes (Lì Xì), and join the family to visit ancestral grounds (Tảo Mộ).

Feb 8 (Lunar Jan 2)

Relatives’ Visits (Chúc Tết): Step out to visit local relatives, share tea, candied fruits (Mứt Tết), and cheerful greetings across the community.

PHASE 3: Spring Festivities & Cave Excursions (Feb 9, 2027 onwards)

Feb 9 (Lunar Jan 3) & Beyond

Enjoy relaxed spring mornings with home-cooked meals. On these lighter household days, take an optional day trip to explore the world-renowned karst caves in nearby Phong Nha-Kẻ Bàng National Park (cave tours can be seamlessly arranged by Endless Vietnam; tour fee separate).
